The Department of Physics in The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible Teaching Assistant Professor position with an anticipated start date in July 2023. This is a fixed-term, fiscal year (twelve-month) appointment with no tenure implications. Subsequent year renewals (July 1st through June 30th) are contingent upon performance, availability of resources, and the department's needs.

The Department of Physics is within The College of Liberal Arts Sciences. The Teaching Assistant Professor will provide instruction primarily in our large undergraduate General Physics Program, supervise teaching assistants, and serve on Department and/or University committees. They will also participate in developing new course materials and act in support of future program plans in conjunction with other faculty and staff.

Specific Responsibilities and Distribution of Effort:

1) Teaching (90%). At the request of the unit chair, teach courses during the fiscal year. Typically, this will be three courses per semester. Responsibilities include classroom instruction, assessment, grading, and office hours. 2) Service (10%). Supervise and mentor the graduate Teaching Assistants assigned to those classes. Participate in Department and/or University committees.

Minimum Qualifications:

• PhD in physics or a related field by the time of appointment. • Effective teaching ability as evidenced by peer and/or student reviews. • Evidence of organization and communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:

• 2-4 years of teaching experience at the university level. • Experience in developing and leading student groups in higher education. • Prior evidence of effective teaching at a range of levels. • Experience working with diverse student populations. • Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting the participation of women and underrepresented minorities. • Multimedia presentation skills and aptitude for using emerging technologies in content delivery.
