Position Description
Kilachand Post-Doctoral Associate (2025) The Kilachand Honors College at Boston University (www.bu.edu/khc/) invites applications for a three-year teaching Postdoctoral position beginning in AY 2025-26. The program is open to scholars in any discipline, including the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. Successful candidates will have an active and promising line of scholarship as well as experience teaching courses that deepen students’ thinking and provide substantial feedback on student writing. Additionally, successful candidates will have a demonstrable commitment to inclusive and innovative pedagogy that can equitably serve the College’s students. Kilachand actively seeks to diversify its student and faculty ranks, recognizing that diversity of experience deepens the intellectual endeavor. We welcome applicants who would benefit from and proactively contribute to our interdisciplinary community of colleagues and students. Kilachand Honors College enrolls undergraduates from a variety of majors. We provide a diverse living-learning community and a challenging, interdisciplinary curriculum focused on questions of ethical, scientific, social, and aesthetic significance. Our Postdoctoral scholars primarily teach Studio I and II, our writing-intensive first-year course sequence. In the first semester, students practice reading carefully, crafting arguments, and revising writing while exploring challenging texts and co-curricular events. In the second semester, students write and revise a research paper on a topic of students’ choosing. Additionally, many of our postdocs teach the Keystone Proposal Workshop, which guides juniors of wide-ranging disciplines through the process of designing major scholarly or creative projects for the senior year. Postdoctoral Associates have some opportunities to teach additional courses, such as our first-year seminars, as staffing allows. The teaching load for this position is twelve credit hours in the academic year, and most of our classes are two credit hours each. Our Postdoctoral scholars engage fully in the Kilachand community, whose members share a commitment to addressing key challenges in our world and applying academic and creative endeavors toward positively affecting society. Postdocs contribute service such as planning co-curricular events; editing our journal of student work, Kaleidoscope; and serving on committees. Postdoctoral scholars often propose events or initiatives that build on their own expertise and interests, build community with KHC students, and expand students’ perspectives. Summers are devoted primarily to research, with some limited time also spent preparing for teaching and providing service to the college. Our postdocs receive interdisciplinary mentorship from Kilachand faculty and are encouraged to make connections with relevant faculty in the larger University. Postdoctoral associates have a yearly performance evaluation. Please submit to AcademicJobsOnline.org 1) letter of application, 2) CV, 3) one-page research statement, and 4) one-page teaching statement. UPDATED PREFERRED DEADLINE: Applications received by March 3, 2025, will be assured full consideration. Applications will continue to be welcomed and reviewed on a rolling basis until positions are filled. Candidates are expected to have received a doctorate by September 1, 2025. Please feel free to direct any questions to Dr. Amy Fish, chair of the search committee, at anfish@bu.edu. Kilachand Postdoctoral Associates are part of the SEIU 509 Union.
