We invite applicants for a postdoctoral position in the group of Benjamin Wieder (https://wieder-group.netlify.app/) at the Institut de Physique Théorique (IPhT, https://www.ipht.fr/) at Paris-Saclay. We are seeking a candidate with significant experience studying solid-state and topological materials through numerical analysis techniques, especially density-functional theory (DFT). Candidates will theoretically and numerically analyze properties of 3D materials, including their surface states; electron, phonon, and magnon degrees of freedom; and bulk topological invariants. Applicants should also be proficient in conducting research, giving seminars, and writing papers in English. Candidates will have the opportunity to work closely with our international network of theory and experimental collaborators. For examples of the numerical calculation proficiency expected of successful candidates, please consult our recent preprints here: https://arxiv.org/a/wieder_b_1.html.

The position is for 18 months, with the possibility of renewal for an additional 18 months contingent on performance. Though this search is primarily focused on candidates with a strong background in numerical solid-state materials analysis (especially DFT), all excellent and motivated candidates are encouraged to apply. The IPhT is located just outside of Paris in picturesque Gif-sur-Yvette at the French CEA and Université Paris-Saclay. Free shuttle buses and transit-pass discounts are provided for researchers who wish to live in downtown Paris. Remote and hybrid work options are also available.

Application review and online interviews will begin on December 12, 2022 and continue on a rolling basis until the position is filled; please apply by that date for full consideration. Interested candidates should submit an application through AcademicJobsOnline and include a CV with publication list, research statement (2-4 pages with reasonable font size and spacing), 3-5 reference letters, and a 1-page cover letter summarizing their qualifications and interest in this position.

For further information, please contact Benjamin Wieder at benjamin.wieder@ipht.fr.
