The ASRC Nanofabrication Facility is a purpose-built cleanroom designed to house collaborative multidisciplinary projects centered around creating novel devices and interfaces. The ASRC is seeking a Nanofabrication Facility Director/Research Assistant Professor who will oversee operations of the facility, seek collaborative opportunities for research and infrastructure improvements. This position reports to the Director of Operations.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Manage Nanofabrication Facility operations and staff. Ensure that instrumentation and support equipment are accessible, functioning, and well maintained for users; establish and review service contracts, as necessary. Oversee training of staff and users on safety, policy, and equipment use. Maintain up-to-date Standard Operating Procedures for all tools, processes, and procedures relating to the facility. Continuously review, revise, and update Nanofabrication Facility policies. Optimize tool availability and usage by standardizing and optimizing process recipes; establish and maintain an inventory of spare parts, supplies, and tools; review and update policy that govern how facility users interact with the equipment. Coordinate with ASRC facilities team to renovate and/or maintain the building infrastructure relating to the facility. Provide emergency response outside of normal business hours relating to nanofabrication facility infrastructure and/or toxic gas monitoring alarm system. Implement operational changes based on need and/or improved operational efficiency. Communicate with all users and stakeholders with relevant updates; maintain web pages related to the facility; ensure up-to-date policies, procedures, SOPs are published and easily accessible online. Prepare reports to accurately reflect operations and achievements. Monitors core finances; prepares annual budget requests; assists with user rate development. Promote the facility and engage with the larger scientific community by presenting at and organizing workshops, conferences and tech meet-ups; engage with potential users, collaborators, and/or partners; pursue strategic collaborations. Collaborate with ASRC CAT business development director to increase industry engagement, collaborations, user base, and/or strategic partnerships. Establish advisory groups (users/faculty/industry/potential user, as needed) to gather feedback to direct development of the facility, improve user experience, and/or expand capabilities; maintain discussions with managers of similar facilities in the region about best practices; implement changes, as necessary. Actively seek collaborative opportunities with researchers from industry and academia; apply for funding to support these activities. Collaborate with PIs and users of the facility to develop ideas for, plan, and implement tool and infrastructure upgrades needed for the facility to support existing and emerging research; apply for funding to support upgrades to facility infrastructure and addition of new research tools. Collaborate with CUNY and ASRC faculty to integrate nanofabrication curricula into their courses; create workshops specifically for graduate students to be trained on nanofabrication techniques; mentor students and interns in the nanofabrication facility. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law.

Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and in the office.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. in area(s) of expertise or equivalent. Also required are success in carrying out research and ability to advise and/or oversee the direct work of others.

Preferred Qualifications:

4 years of experience in working in a nanofabrication facility. 2 years of experience managing others. Publication history to demonstrate research in nanofabrication and/or ability to oversee or direct research projects relating to nanofabrication facility. Direct experience with concept development and preparing grant applications for submission. Understanding of research techniques related to etching, deposition, lithography, metrology, and thermal processing. Experience developing policies, SOPs, and process recipes relating to nanofabrication. Ability to work occasional weekends and/or evenings. Excellent customer service, verbal and written communications, time management, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

COMPENSATION

$80,000-$120,000/year. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. IMPORTANT NOTICE:

Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022, City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022, will only be eligible to enroll in the Emblem Health HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.

After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.

If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.

Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to Emblem Health. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by Emblem Health before the exemption is granted.
