Cornell University’s Department of Performing and Media Arts seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor in Cinema Studies for a 1.5 year, full-time position beginning January 1, 2022 and ending June 30, 2023.

We are looking for a dynamic and innovative scholar with a wide range of interests in cinema studies. The candidate will teach undergraduate students in our major in Performing and Media Arts, which combines theory and practice in film, transmedia, theatre, and dance in unusual and experimental ways. Courses – which uphold and challenge core training in the discipline of cinema and media studies – would include an introductory-level course, a two-course sequence in global cinema, and elective courses in the candidate’s range of interests. The teaching load is two courses per semester. The successful candidate will also engage in the intellectual life of the department beyond its teaching mission, including as a participant in the department colloquium. We are interested in recruiting candidates who demonstrate commitment to the highest standards of scholarship, teaching, and professional activity consistent with a Research I university. Our department is committed to the development of a campus climate that supports equality and diversity.

The Department of Performing and Media Arts offers B.A. and Ph.D. degrees that allow students to study and explore within and across the disciplines film, theatre, and dance. More information is available at https://pma.cornell.edu

Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a Statement of Contribution to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (please see http://facultydevelopment.cornell.edu/information-for-faculty-candidates/ for more information), a writing sample, a teaching portfolio (if available), and three letters of recommendation to https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/19222. Strong candidates will have familiarity with issues of equity and inclusion in the film and media industry and a commitment to cultivating underrepresented voices in the classroom. Please note that the candidate's highest terminal degree must be a PhD, and the candidate must have the PhD officially awarded no later than December 31, 2021.

The deadline for applications is October 15, 2021.
