The School of Integrative Plant Science (SIPS) is the largest academic unit in Cornell’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, providing a unifying framework for five sections with interrelated activities: Horticulture, Plant Biology, Plant Breeding & Genetics, Plant Pathology & Plant-Microbe Biology, and Soil & Crop Sciences. The sections are associated with distinct disciplines and graduate fields, but are connected by urgent local and global challenges and the revolutionary scientific tools now available. 


SIPS welcomes applications for a Lecturer in Hemp Science to develop and teach online content in collaboration with eCornell, based on current courses in SIPS. The successful applicant will benefit from Cornell's cutting-edge research and teaching resources; interactions with top faculty in hemp agronomy, horticulture, pest and disease management, production and processing of hemp and other life sciences; and one of the leading public hemp breeding programs in the country. SIPS also has an ongoing active learning initiative that could aid in course development and teaching course content. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  1. Develop and teach online certificate programs in hemp production and processing through eCornell. 
  2. Work collaboratively with current faculty teaching courses in these areas with potential expansion into areas such as greenhouse production, hydroponics, disease, weed and pest management.
  3. Build a strong partnership between eCornell and SIPS
  4. Join the committee that oversees New York State scholarships for the eCornell hemp certificate programs
  5. Work with hemp science faculty write grants to support additional online certificate programs and scholarships
  6. Participate in the Hemp Science team meetings 
Term:
This is a 12-month position with the initial appointment will be for three years and is renewable based on available work, continued funding and successful performance
. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Applications will be be reviewed starting on May 1, 2022. 

Anticipated Division of Time: 
45% Course development/Educational activities 
45% Teaching 
5% Committee service (Hemp Team and Scholarships) 
5% Grant writing 

Requirements: 
The Instructor must have a master’s degree in in plant, agricultural, soil, or biological sciences and teaching experience. 
Online educational programing experience desired but not required. Candidates should have an interest in developing innovating teaching skills, and sharing those skills across SIPS. 

Supervision: 
Supervision is not required for this position.

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  • Prior relevant work or industry experience.
  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
  • Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
