Duke University, Pratt School of Engineering, Department of Biomedical Engineering has an opening for a Senior Laboratory Administrator.

The Senior Laboratory Administrator coordinates administrative and technical activities in the Biomedical Engineering Department's Teaching Laboratories, focusing on the Department’s physiology, electronics, neural engineering, and biomechanics and biomaterials laboratories.

Work Performed:

• Work with a diverse team in Biomedical Engineering (BME) to run an extensive array of undergraduate laboratory exercises in electronics, mechanics, biomechanics, biomaterials, electrobiology, microbiology, and genomics.

• Maintain order in laboratory by cleaning, organizing, and mentoring students in good laboratory hygiene.

• Assist faculty in the development of new laboratory exercises for new and existing courses. This may include planning new exercises with instructors, conducting and evaluating prototype labs, and recommending and/or making necessary changes in materials, techniques, or procedures.

• Instruct and supervise student teaching assistants (TAs), including planning lab coverage and leading preview sessions.

• Keep laboratory facilities and procedures up to date and in keeping with the department's strategic planning.

• Maintain, repair, and operate laboratory equipment, e.g. electronics bench equipment, tensile testers, and others related to microbiology and genomics. • Assist students with proper, safe use of hand tools, power tools, and laboratory instruments used in the completion of design projects.

• Serve as needed as a TA to ensure full coverage of teaching needs.

• Research and recommend major lab equipment purchases to department administration.

• Assist as needed in all BME teaching laboratories.

• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
