Position Description
The Duke School of Engineering
(Pratt) at Duke University invites applications for a Non-Regular Rank
Executive in Residence position in the Master of Engineering Management (MEM) program.
Successful candidates will be responsible for the following:
- Teaching load: 4 sections of
MEM 540 management – 2 Fall, 2 Spring
- Service Component: Partner
with MEM’s Executive director in advancing industry partnerships to ensure
that students are gaining experience and learning skills that are current
with industry needs. This role has the following elements:
- Development
of a “target list” of companies that we want to focus our outreach
to. Factors that should be considered include history of recruiting
MEM students, student desire to work in these companies, alignment with
MEM’s elective track, geographic location in RTP, etc.
- Conduct
industry outreach to companies in “target list”. The goal of the
outreach is to:
i.
Increase
company’s awareness of MEM program
ii.
Create
opportunities for companies to sponsor employees as students in our program
iii.
Sourcing
of industry projects for potential execution within MEM elective courses
iv.
Create
opportunities for students to be hired by said companies
- Partner with
other members of MEM Leadership team to track & ensure leads from
outreach are turning into action
Ideal candidates should have relevant experience and a track record of helping individuals, particularly in science & technology fields learn concepts and practice skills that will enable them to transition from being an individual contributor to managing and leading others as a business professional. The candidate should demonstrate competence in areas such as understanding of management and leadership; developing awareness of own management and leadership styles; building and practicing competencies essential for team success; and helping individuals become ethical leaders above reproach. They will also have a PhD in engineering, psychology, or a related field (or commensurate industry leadership experience plus a master’s degree). Prior teaching experience in a university setting is preferred but not required. Teaching/course development experience is strongly preferred. This position is expected to be full time, but other levels of commitment may be considered.
