Job Description:

The Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL) Data Evaluation group seeks a Research Scientist to join our group in support of nuclear structure data compilation and evaluation.

The Triangle University Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL) is a Department of Energy Center of Excellence in Nuclear Physics.

TUNL is one of four Department of Energy Nuclear Physics Centers of Excellence, with affiliated experimental and theory faculty from Duke, North Carolina Central, North Carolina State, and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Located on the campus of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, TUNL draws collaborators worldwide and provides opportunities in both accelerator and non-accelerator-based research. In addition, TUNL is engaged in research collaborations at leading national and international user facilities.

The TUNL group is part of the US Nuclear Data Program and participates in the international network of Nuclear Structure and Decay Data evaluators. We are responsible for compilation and evaluation of nuclei in the A=2-20 mass region. A successful candidate will have recently completed a PhD in nuclear physics and will contribute in literature surveys to produce XUNDL datasets, related to individual articles, and ENSDF evaluations for nuclides and collections of nuclides along isotopic chains. Additional contributions may include expanding the presentation of nuclear data on our locally managed website that specifically focuses on light nuclei https://nucldata.tunl.duke.edu/.

This appointment will be through Duke University, carries a one-year appointment, and is contingent upon annual grant funding. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Applicants should submit a CV, a brief description of research experience and the names of three potential references to Prof. John Kelley (jhkelley@ncsu.edu) and Research Manager Shaun Diehl (shaun.diehl@duke.edu).
