The Department of Romance Studies at Duke University is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate in Spanish Studies for a one-year position beginning Fall 2022. We welcome scholars with superior linguistic proficiency in Spanish and a clear research agenda, and who have demonstrated teaching excellence and commitment to diversity in their teaching.

Preference will be given to candidates who are able to teach courses in contemporary Latin American literature and culture and/or who have a Transatlantic approach. We especially encourage applications from members of groups that have been historically underrepresented in higher education. To that end, we invite candidates to explain how issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion are brought into their teaching, scholarship, and/or service in their application materials. A Ph.D. is required and must be completed at the time of hire/appointment.

Applicants will teach two advanced undergraduate courses in Spanish each semester, with the opportunity to develop new courses in the spring semester. Candidates will be expected to participate in departmental activities and to present their research to the Romance Studies community. Candidates will also be encouraged to develop their own research projects in conversation with members of the department and to present their current research to the Romance Studies community.

Please submit through AJO a CV, cover letter, evidence of teaching effectiveness (a statement of teaching philosophy, teaching evaluations, sample syllabi), a statement describing experience, training, or engagement with issues of diversity, equity and inclusion; and 3 letters of recommendation, at least one of which should speak to the candidate's teaching.

Applications received by April 20, 2022 will receive full consideration, though the position will remain open until filled.
