The Thompson Writing Program at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, invites applications for several Instructors for a one-semester, non-renewable appointment for the Fall 2023 semester or Spring 2024 semester. The Instructor’s responsibility will be to teach one or two sections of First-Year Academic Writing in Fall 2023 or Spring 2024.

Instructors will draw on their disciplinary training and interests to design a seminar-style course introducing students to academic writing. Each section is limited to 15 students. The Instructor position at Duke is a non-tenure track, non-regular-rank position. This appointment has a start date of August 1, 2023 ending December 31, 2023 for the Fall semester, January 1, 2024 ending May 31, 2024 for the Spring semester. Compensation is competitive.

Successful candidates will have experience teaching at the college level, preferably with experience in writing pedagogy. Ph.D. preferred. We strongly encourage applications from women and minorities.
