Position Description:

*** this position has been closed and new applications are no longer accepted. ***

A postdoctoral position in soft condensed matter theory is available at Johns Hopkins University (JHU) with start date in Fall 2023 or early 2024. The postdoctoral fellow will primarily work with Professor Daniel Beller, and will have opportunities to collaborate with several other groups studying soft matter and biological physics at JHU. The position supports two years of funding, with the possibility of extension to a third year upon mutual agreement and availability of funds.

The successful candidate should hold a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related subject by the time of the position’s start date, and should have experience in computational and/or theoretical approaches to soft matter physics.

The postdoctoral fellow will primarily work with Prof. Beller on theoretical and computational modeling of liquid crystals and their defects. The main research focus will be the structure and time-evolution of topological defects in nematic liquid crystals, toward understanding both frustrated equilibria in passive systems and dynamical steady-states in active systems. Descriptions of the Beller Group’s work in this and other areas can be found at https://pages.jh.edu/dbeller3/Research.html.

Instructions: Applications should be submitted through https://academicjobsonline.org/. Application materials include 1) A CV with a list of publications, 2) A research statement of up to three pages, 3) Three letters of recommendation. Applications will be reviewed beginning August 1, 2023, and the position will remain open until filled.

The start date is flexible and is expected to be around January 2024. For inquiries about this position, please email Daniel Beller at d.a.beller@jhu.edu.
