Lyman Briggs College (LBC) (http://www.lymanbriggs.msu.edu) at Michigan State University is seeking a Laboratory Coordinator in Chemistry to teach introductory undergraduate chemistry laboratory courses and supervise its general chemistry laboratories. This is a probationary appointment with the opportunity for continuation depending on performance reviews, including peer and student teaching evaluations, under the purview of MSU’s Academic Specialist Continuing Appointment System.
Founded in 1967, LBC is a vibrant undergraduate, residential, liberal arts college at MSU focusing on the study of science and its impact on society. The LBC student body is 60% women and 20% students of color; 20% of LBC students are also members of MSU’s Honors College. Faculty work closely with students in small classes and with student groups such as Women in Science and the Briggs Multi-racial Alliance. Responsibilities of this position will include teaching the LBC introductory undergraduate chemistry laboratory course, developing new inquiry-based laboratory experiences, developing and teaching a small lecture/laboratory combination course for students with weaker quantitative backgrounds, training and supervising undergraduate peer learning assistants, and participating with other MSU faculty in the ongoing development of an integrated science curriculum for LBC. Requirements include a strong record of teaching and research accomplishment, and at least a Masters’ Degree in chemistry or chemical education; a Ph.D. degree and even postdoctoral experience is welcomed. A flexible and innovative approach to teaching students and mentoring student employees is essential. |
