Leading the next generation of semiconductor qubits

About you

We are looking for a creative and talented individual that will lead at Institut quantique the development of the next generation of spin qubits in quantum dots. Candidates with a solid expertise in experimental quantum computing or nanoelectronics are encouraged to apply.  Applicants should have an excellent publication record and/or a strong potential for technological transfer of their research results, as required by our Prized Postdoctoral Fellowships program. The fellow will need to have completed his or her PhD in the 4 years prior to starting his or her position.

About the project

Silicon offers compelling properties for spin qubits in quantum dots. On the one hand, high-performance silicon qubits with integrated micro-magnets demonstrated the fastest and most reliable single-qubit gates in quantum dots. On the other hand, silicon renders the most recent spin qubit designs compatible with the complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) fabrication processes, the current computer-chip manufacturing standard. This close connection with the microelectronics industry opens up promising avenues for rapid improvement of individual qubits and for scaling to fully-fledged quantum processors. Still, a major remaining issue for industrial development of spin qubits is coming up with structures that can bridge the gap between high performance qubits and large scale integration.

By working at Institut quantique, the fellow will have the opportunity to overcome this gap by designing, planning and realizing a five qubits experiment with silicon MOS quantum dots. The fellow will benefit from (i) the expertise of Prof. Michel Pioro-Ladrière’s group on micro-magnets qubits; (ii) nanofabrication engineers at Institut quantique; (iii) the MOS quantum dot platform of Sandia National Laboratories; (iv) the Fully Depleted Silicon on Insulator advanced CMOS technology of STMicroelectronics, a global microelectronics company; and (v) the Quantum Researchers Toolkit of Keysight Technologies, the world's leading electronic measurement firm.
