The Biosciences Department within the Science Directorate at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory / Stanford University is seeking a Staff Scientist to conduct research in a state-of-the- art electron microscopy facility.

Job Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
  • Carry out research in advancing the state of art electron cryo-microscopy as an atomic resolution tool for 3-D structure determination of biological single particles.
  • Develop cryo-electron tomography for imaging organelles and cells towards subnanometer resolution.
  • Assist biological users to operate electron microscopes for their data collection and data quality assessment.
  •  Collaborate with biological end-users of different specimens.
  •  Maintain the quality of the electron microscope performance and other auxiliary cryo-specimen preparation apparatus.
  • Train new users of transmission electron microscopes. 
  • Assist in grant proposal applications and reports to funding agencies.
  • Develop new research approaches in phase plate, electron optics modification and cryo-specimen preparation protocols in cryoEM, cryoET and electron diffraction.
***Note:*** The Staff Scientist level is a regular-continuing position and requires a review and evaluation of documented scientific achievements.   • Ph.D. in biochemistry or related field, with extensive professional experience in cryoEM.
  • Proven record of independent research including publications in major journals and conference presentations in cryoEM as applied to biological and biomedical research.
  • Strong background in cryoEM techniques and computational analysis of cryoEM data.
  • Demonstrated mentoring and teaching skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a challenging, high-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse population.
