The Cornell Institute for Public Affairs (CIPA) at Cornell University invites applications for a part-time lecturer position focused on teaching a course on “Accounting for Corporate, Governmental, and Nonprofit Organizations” in Spring 2018 (January-May). 

We seek candidates who can develop innovative and effective teaching methods that will allow students to:

  1. Identify the difference between financial accounting, managerial accounting, nonprofit accounting, and governmental accounting.

  2. Read, interpret, and analyze corporate, nonprofit, and governmental financial statements.

  3. Participate in budgeting activities and budget analysis.

  4. Demonstrate a basic knowledge of federal taxation and how it applies to different business entities.

The curriculum/syllabus for this course has already been developed, but may be modified by the incumbent in consultation with CIPA’s Director of Graduate Studies.  In addition to instruction, the incumbent will be responsible for various classroom management tasks, including evaluating student performance, complying with College of Human Ecology Registrar protocols regarding grade submission, and participating in periodic meetings of CIPA instructional faculty.  The incumbent will not assume any role in academic advising. 


  • Master’s Degree in relevant discipline, PhD. preferred

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.

  • 2-3 years of experience in public/nonprofit accounting preferred. 

  • Experience teaching at the graduate level, or in professional environments, preferred.
