The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of South Alabama invites applications for the Warren Nicholson Endowed professorship and program coordinator of the computer engineering program at the assistant/associate professor level starting in the 2018-2019 academic year. This is a tenured or tenure track position depending on the candidate’s qualifications. Outstanding candidates in all areas of computer engineering are encouraged to apply.

At a minimum, applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering or closely related discipline by the time of hire. The department is looking for candidates who can strengthen the core competencies and has expertise in areas including, but not limited to, digital IC design, embedded systems, computer security, machine intelligence, high performance computing, or other closely related research areas. Applicants are expected to have a track record and the ability to teach computer engineering core courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, communicate effectively, potential to establish and conduct sponsored research, and strong publication record.

The Nicholson Endowed professorship appointment will be made to a candidate with very exceptional achievement, a proven record of scholarly productivity, instructional excellence, and evidence of distinction in her/his discipline. The endowed professorship appointment is for fixed terms of up to three years, subject to annual renewal that requires a timely submission of a report submitted by the professor that documents activities and achievements during the year, and approved by the Chair and Dean.

As program coordinator of the computer engineering program, the candidate must have an actual record of, or potential for, academic leadership that will contribute to invigorating instructional effectiveness, curricular innovation, and/or increased research productivity of the department. The successful candidate is also expected to have the ability to contribute to the college's continuing commitment to strong undergraduate and graduate teaching and research. The Electrical & Computer Engineering Department is housed in a 155,000 s.f. state-of-the-art building opened in 2012. The department offers BSEE, BSCpE degrees that are ABET accredited and MSEE degrees. The USA College of Engineering offers the Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) in Systems Engineering.
