The Faculty of Sciences is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide. The School of Physical Sciences is one of four Schools in the Faculty of Sciences.  Located at the University's North Terrace campus, the School brings together the internationally recognised contemporary disciplines of chemistry; earth science; and physics, delivering undergraduate and postgraduate education, training and research with both national relevance and global outreach and networks in the public and private sectors.

We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced individual to work in our Centre for the Subatomic Structure of Matter (CSSM). The position will be funded through the ARC Discovery Project DP180100497 that has recently been awarded to Professor Anthony Thomas at The University of Adelaide and Dr. Cedric Simenel at the Australian National University.  This position will be of interest to theorists working in nuclear theory and the project will be focused on the development of the Quark Meson Coupling model and its application to nuclear structure and reactions as well as neutron stars.

Salary: Level A ($83,307 to $89,425) per annum.

Superannuation: An employer contribution of 17% may apply.

Term of position: This two year, fixed-term contract (with the possibility for extension subject to funding) is available immediately.

Position requirements

To be successful you should have:

  • PhD or equivalent degree (or thesis submitted) in theoretical physics
  • A commitment to research excellence in theoretical nuclear physics
  • Demonstrated publication track record in leading scientific journals and conferences
  • Advanced analytical and computational skills, including demonstrated ability to perform complex numerical calculations
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research in addition to working effectively as a member of a research team
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
