A position at the Assistant Professor level is available for someone with an interest in mechanism-based therapeutics, an interdisciplinary area of studies within the Division of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the College of Pharmacy of the Ohio State University (OSU). The goals and approaches of mechanism-based therapeutics include identification of site-specific therapeutic agents, and ultimate translation of novel intervention strategies into the preclinical and clinical domains, via characterization of pharmacokinetic, efficacy, and toxicity profiles. Studies in this exciting and highly translational area of research offer both hypothesis-driven and technology-driving paradigms, and transcend disciplines of pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacology, biotechnology, and cancer biology. Under the guidance of this faculty member, the OSU College of Pharmacy and OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center are poised to develop new, clinically-applicable therapeutic interventions and expand and enhance its drug development programs. Eligible applicants will have broad experience in molecular mechanisms of drug action, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics.
Required Education: A PhD degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent as well as minimum of five (5) years of relevant and productive postdoctoral research experience is required.
Required Experience: Demonstration of an ability to initiate and conduct original, high quality laboratory-based cancer research and an ability to direct laboratory personnel and mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty is required. Basic core experience in the development of small molecule drug for the treatment of solid tumors is also required. The position further requires extensive knowledge of molecular biology and clinical pharmacology techniques, as well as experience with the use animal models for the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic evaluation of small molecule anticancer drugs.
Desired Experience: Detailed knowledge of analytical chemistry and direct experience with translational/clinical drug development is highly desired.
