A unique interdisciplinary and international postdoctoral fellowship in biomechanics is available. The research will examine the biomechanics of fast animal movement in the context of evolutionary analyses and a broader interdisciplinary team effort that aims to understand the principles of impulsive movement in biological and synthetic systems. The postdoctoral researcher will work with a team of interdisciplinary researchers from six institutions, and will be primarily based in the laboratories of Dr. Gregory Sutton (University of Bristol, School of Biological Sciences, United Kingdom) and Prof. Sheila Patek (Duke University, Biology Department, USA).

The candidate must be willing to handle insects and would ideally have experience with high-speed imaging, musculoskeletal modelling, and Matlab or Mathematica. The candidate may have a background in biology, engineering and/or physics. A Ph.D. in one of these areas is required. The appointment will be for 12 months with the possibility for renewal contingent on performance and continuing funding availability for up to 2 years. The candidate must be willing and able to work in both the UK and the USA for significant periods of time during each year. The annual salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and available funding. The researcher would ideally start the position in May 2018, although some flexibility is possible.
