STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK AT STONY BROOK: Viola and Chamber Music Instructor—Part-Time Artist-in-Residence Position for a distinguished artist/teacher. The Department of Music at Stony Brook seeks a violist with an exemplary reputation; profound understanding of his/her craft; strong ability to communicate his/her vision; well-versed in solo, chamber music, and orchestral literature. The appointee will be an excellent violist in the performance of classical music, with a deep knowledge of, and commitment to, the music of our time and skill in its performance. We seek a violist who will successfully recruit and teach viola students on the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels, and who will coach chamber music. Experience performing music of the Baroque era will be considered an asset. The appointee will be open-minded, inspirational, and dedicated, and serve as a mentor to his or her students while having a positive effect on the Department of Music community. The appointee will join a distinguished faculty of performers, musicologists, ethnomusicologists, and composers who work together in multi-disciplinary collaboration. The department offers a B.A. and eight graduate degrees in the areas of composition, music history-theory, and ethnomusicology and is especially highly regarded for its distinguished graduate programs. Required Qualifications *National and/or international reputation as an outstanding violist, experienced in the solo, chamber music, and orchestral repertoire *Excellence as an violist in the performance of classical music.
