Position Description:

The Ecole normale supérieure de Paris opens a professorship position in its Physics Department (www.phys.ens.fr). The department wishes to recruit a theoretical physicist with the widest possible spectrum of expertise, who will develop original and independent research activities at the highest international level.

This recruitment is part of the scientific strategy of the Physics Department in which theoretical physics has a special place. Theoretical physics is present in all the laboratories of the department. The department aims at developing synergies between all the areas of theoretical physics, ranging from high-energy and particle physics to cosmology, statistical mechanics, biophysics, quantum physics and condensed matter. It supports actively the development of theoretical activities and provides resources, notably through the LabEx ICFP program and the Philippe Meyer Institute.

The Physics Department of the Ecole normale supérieure organizes a very high level and internationally oriented training in fundamental physics starting at the bachelor level. In particular, the department pilots the ICFP (International Center for Fundamental Physics) Master of Fundamental Physics, which is taught in English and includes individual student follow-up and several research internships in France and abroad in its curriculum (www.phys.ens.fr/spip.php?rubrique259). The recruited professor will actively participate in the development of these teaching activities, and in expanding the international outlook of the department.

For this high level position, international experience is essential. Knowledge of the French language is not mandatory but the professor will have to learn it. No condition of nationality is required.
