The Executive Director/Associate Dean for the Sciences of the ASRC plays a central role in strategic decision-making for the sciences at the ASRC and the GC, and helps represent the GC’s scientific vision and research to internal and external audiences. The incumbent will liaise between the scientific enterprises centered in the Graduate Center’s Fifth Avenue building and in the ASRC building. Based at the ASRC in Harlem, s/he will oversee the five Initiatives and develop business plans and goals for the Core Facilities (including e.g. revenue targets, user base, short courses), coordinate the implementation of building-wide goals, and help the Directors and managers develop the ASRC’s distinctive interdisciplinary research agenda. With the assistance of a Director of Administrative Operations, the Executive Director/Associate Dean for the Sciences is responsible for enhancing the internal organization and infrastructure necessary for the continued success and growth of the ASRC.

This position reports to the Graduate Center Dean for the Sciences.

Duties include but are not limited to: - Leads collaborative efforts to envision new research activities for the ASRC and to develop new funding opportunities for the ASRC as a whole, including partnerships with peer institutions; creates revenue and grants targets for the sciences; establishes and maintains relationships with funding agencies and commercial firms, including travel to these entities for relationship building; - Takes the lead in advancing a key goal of the ASRC: creating and enabling extramural public-private partnerships for the ASRC Initiatives and Cores in the New York metropolitan area, the nation, and beyond, in concert with doctoral faculty in the sciences; - Works closely on the development of various programs as identified in the GC and ASRC strategic plans; - Communicates and facilitates, internally, the ASRC’s priorities, policies, and programs; - Oversees the outreach programs for GC sciences, with a special focus on diversifying the sciences via pipelines and other projects; - Supports and advises the Dean for the Sciences and the Provost on scientific programs and policies; - Serves as a member of the President’s Cabinet; - Manages the budget and supervises all budgetary resources allocated to the ASRC; - Oversees the activities within the Office of Sponsored Programs at the ASRC; - Serves as the chief resource in the hiring of new ASRC employees, including all faculty appointments in the sciences at the ASRC (excluding the ASRC Initiative Directors) and at the GC, when appropriate; - Collaborates with the Initiative Directors and Facility managers to refine the strategic direction of the ASRC, and, once executed, monitors its progress both directly and via the development of external review panels at the ASRC-wide and initiative-specific levels; - Supervises staff; - Performs other duties as assigned by the GC Dean for the Sciences and Provost.

Qualifications: - Ph.D. degree in the sciences. - Experience working in a scientific administration. - Experience conducting scientific research. - Demonstrated ability to manage human and financial resources. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Strong problem-solving skills.
