Position Description:    

The Department of Physics at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified, part-time or full-time, temporary, non-tenure track lecturers to teach a range of physics courses, should an opening arise. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of available positions varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the department. Positions may range from 17% to 100% time.

We are seeking outstanding lecturers who can teach/co-teach small, medium, and large size undergraduate lower and/or upper division lecture, seminar and/or laboratory courses in Physics. In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties may include: holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g. syllabus), creating and grading exams and homework, and using a learning management system (e.g. bCourses) and/or maintaining a course website.

Basic qualifications: A Master’s degree (or equivalent degree) in Physics or a related field is required at the time of application. Demonstrated teaching experience in Physics at the college level is also required at the time of application.

Preferred qualifications: A Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in Physics or a related field is preferred.

Minimum starting annual full-time (100%) salary rate is based on an academic year salary of $53,402. Salary to be commensurate with experience and education. Some credit will be given to prior college- level teaching experience (not including graduate student or summer sessions teaching).
