Cornell’s Systems Engineering Program, possibly cooperating with other Cornell departments (e.g., Cornell Computer Science) invites applications for a position to develop and teach courses in Systems Engineering for both on-campus students and professional distance-learning students. The candidate will also take an important role in growing relationships with industry, especially as it pertains to student projects. This is a non-tenure track position in the Systems Engineering program at the Ithaca campus, renewable every three to five years. The Systems Engineering Program trains students with the skills needed to be program managers, researchers, and designers for the next generation of complex, large-scale systems.

We seek a faculty member to help lead our systems and systems engineering education efforts.  We seek candidates with significant work experience in systems engineering that can use that experience to support the educational mission of the program. Our particular interests include, but are not limited to, systems-related software engineering topics, human-systems interactions, and sociotechnical systems design and enterprise.  Applicants should have a strong background in systems, some relevant background and experience, must exhibit strong promise for excellence in developing courses and in teaching, and possibly an interest in carrying out research in systems-related areas leading to peer-reviewed conference presentations and publications.  The person should have an advanced degree in a related field (Doctorate preferred). Depending on qualifications, we can hire at the rank of Professor of Practice, Senior Lecturer or Lecturer. Although this is intended to be a full-time position, alternative arrangements may be considered.

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  • Prior relevant work or industry experience.
  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
  • Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
  • Unique applicable skills.
