CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, LONG BEACH POSITION: Assistant Professor of Geography EFFECTIVE DATE: August 19, 2019 (Fall Semester) SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with qualifications and experience MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Geography, Urban Planning or closely related discipline with specialization in spatial dimensions of Gender, Race, Ethnicity, and/or Sexuality in urban contexts. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2019. Demonstrated or potential ability for effective teaching in our Geography undergraduate and graduate-level courses. Demonstrated or potential ability to generate funding for research and student support. Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population. DESIRED/PREFERRED Expertise in spatial dimensions of Gender, Race, Ethnicity, and/or Sexuality in urban contexts with specialization in one or more of the following areas: black, Latinx, feminist, or queer geographies; health geographies; migration and mobility; emotional geographies; social or environmental justice; legal geographies; or similar sub-areas. DUTIES: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses including but not limited to: GEOG 120, 160, 360, 462, 402/502, 446, 650, 666. Final determination of teaching assignment is dependent on departmental needs. Develop courses in area(s) of expertise, including human diversity. Outreach to and engage with communities beyond the university. Participate in interdisciplinary activities, networks, and centers on campus. Conduct research and seek external funding in area(s) of expertise. Supervise graduate students and teach graduate seminars. Participate in service to the department, college, university, and community.
