General Information

Chapman University seeks applications for an Assistant Professor of Psychology (tenure-track) in the Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences beginning August 2019. This position is seeking candidates whose area of specialization is in social-cognitive or social-developmental psychology and whose research complements the department’s current and growing areas of strength, including social, health and developmental psychology; relationship, affective, and computational sciences; and neuroscience. 

The Psychology Department is in the Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences at Chapman University. Multiple faculty are also members of the Center for Excellence in Biopsychosocial Approaches to Health (CEBAH; https://www.chapman.edu/crean/research-centers) and the Institute for Interdisciplinary Brain and Behavioral Sciences (https://www.chapman.edu/research/institutes-and-centers/brain-institute). Qualifications

A Ph.D. from an accredited program in psychology or related field; evidence of excellence in research and teaching; competence in quantitative methods of research, statistics/biostatistics, and research design. 

We are particularly seeking candidates whose research in the areas of social-cognitive or social-developmental psychology incorporates experimental and/or psychophysiological/psychobiological methods and whose work complements ongoing programs of research in health, developmental, relationship, and affective sciences, as well as growing areas of expertise in neuroscience and computational science.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain a productive and innovative line of research with strong potential for or demonstration of extramural funding. 

The teaching load for this position is 2-2 and includes teaching undergraduate courses in areas of expertise using innovative teaching methods. Candidates will also advise undergraduate students and supervise student research projects. Chapman currently has a system through which mentoring individual student research projects can be applied towards teaching load. 

Tenure track faculty are expected to develop and maintain an active research agenda for future tenure consideration and are evaluated on their research/scholarly activity, teaching and service.
