The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) is a pioneer of purpose-driven science and Cornell University’s second largest college. The questions we probe and the answers we seek focus on three overlapping concerns: natural and human systems; food, energy and environmental resources; and social, physical and economic well-being.

 We have an immediate postdoc position in the general field of biomaterials and cellular bioengineering under the supervision of Dr. Minglin Ma at Cornell University. The Ma research group consists of an interdisciplinary team of chemists, material scientists and bioengineers, and is focusing on developing advanced biomaterials for medical and non-medical applications. Examples of applications include type 1 diabetes treatment and advanced biomanufacturing. Please see malab.bee.cornell.edu for more information.

One year appointment with possible extension depending on performance and funding.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Help develop new biomaterials for therapeutic applications especially the treatment of diabetes. Deep knowledge in biomaterials and cellular bioengineering is desirable. 60%
  • Publish research articles in relevant peer-reviewed journals and present results at scientific meetings. 15%
  • Assist the PI to develop proposals to secure external funding for research projects. 5%
  • Develop additional projects building on the strengths, interests, and expertise of the candidate.  20%

  Requirements:

  •  Ph. D degree in related fields
  • Expertise in biomaterials and cellular bioengineering
  • Reasonable knowledge in biology-material interactions (e.g. foreign body response, vascularization of biomaterials)
