The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Material Sciences at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, invite applications for an Assistant Professor of the Practice position . We especially invite candidates whose teaching goes beyond traditional lecture-based approaches, and who effectively use active-learning and/or explore other novel approaches to teaching more effectively.

The ideal candidate will have commitment, passion, and excellence in teaching. Candidates should be eager to educate a broad and diverse group of students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and passionate about working to increase the participation and success of students from groups underrepresented in computer engineering and science. An ideal candidate should be enthusiastic about teaching rigorous courses in programming, control systems, and dynamics, though we will consider especially strong candidates who can teach a subset of these.

Professors of the Practice are regular rank faculty whose primary focus is the school’s educational mission. Reappointment and promotion are based on teaching excellence as well as complementary scholarship through technical or educational research, external research funding, peer-reviewed conference and journal publications, and/or involvement in engineering education at the national or international level. Such faculty typically teach two courses per semester with TA support.

Candidates must possess an earned doctorate in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or an appropriate related discipline.
