General Information

Chapman University’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders seeks applications for an open rank tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences, beginning August 2019. 

The CSD department is fully accredited by the Council of Academic Accreditation (CAA). It is located on the Rinker Health Science campus in Irvine, California, which is home to several graduate health science professional programs, including physical therapy, pharmacy, and physician assistant studies. The campus is distinguished by its innovative research laboratories, teaching and learning technology, and emphasis on inter-professional education, evidence-based practice, and health promotion and prevention. The newly established Institute for Interdisciplinary Brain and Behavioral Sciences on the Rinker campus provides opportunity for interdisciplinary research (https://www.chapman.edu/research/institutes-and-centers/brain-institute/index.aspx). 

The Rinker campus is strategically located near numerous medical centers in Southern California in the heart of Orange County. Furthermore, we are associated with several centers and school districts that provide services to preschoolers and school-aged children. Qualifications

This is an open rank (Assistant, Associate, Full) search for a faculty member who will contribute to the CSD department, college and university. 

General requirements include a doctorate degree in communication sciences and disorders or closely related field, a record of scholarship and dedication to research, and teaching experience at university graduate level. 

We prefer candidates who hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) and a CA license or are CA license eligible, and; applicants with a strong commitment to working in an inter-professional health services environment. 

To be considered at the Assistant Professor level, successful candidates will demonstrate: 1) identified area(s) of scholarship with a clear plan of research; 2) teaching experience, and; 3) willingness to provide some service to the department. 

To be considered at the Associate Professor level, successful candidates will have evidence of excellence in: 1) scholarship, including peer-reviewed publications and recognition as an independent investigator, with a history of grantsmanship; 2) teaching, and advising/mentoring graduate students; and 3) service to the college and/or profession, e.g., on the editorial board of peer-reviewed journals. Candidates should be eligible for tenure. 

To be considered at the Full Professor level, successful candidates will have a strong history of excellence in: 1) scholarship, including peer-reviewed publications, books, and extramural funding; 2) innovative teaching and mentorship of graduate students; and 3) service to the university and to the profession, e.g., editorships, grant review committees. Candidates should be eligible for tenure. 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include teaching, scholarship, advising and service. 

Successful tenure-track faculty candidates will develop and/or have a strong a line of research, pursue internal and external funding and teach in the areas of adult cognitive and language disorders, motor speech disorders, AAC, child language disorders, second language acquisition, multicultural and multilinguistic influences, school-based issues and/or literacy. 

Teaching load is commensurate with other research universities. 

Advise graduate students and guide student projects in areas of research expertise. 

Provide service to the college, university and profession commensurate with their faculty rank.
