Schmid College of Science and Technology (SCST) at Chapman University seeks applicants for a tenure-track, full-time Assistant Professor of Computational Biology, effective Fall 2019.

Schmid College houses both the Biological Sciences and Computational and Data Sciences (CADS) programs, and the new faculty will be an integral part of both programs. The Biological Sciences program is home to a diverse group of faculty with specializations in a broad range of fields, from molecular and cellular biology to ecology and evolution and more. The program’s undergraduate degree in biology is characterized by personalized education, small class sizes, innovative teaching, and strong student-faculty interactions. Similarly, the CADS program has a diverse faculty group with specializations in a broad range of computational fields. The CADS program offers both M.S. and Ph.D. interdisciplinary graduate degrees.

We seek a colleague with a strong record of publication and potential for extramural funding who can incorporate undergraduate and graduate students into their research. Requirements include a Ph.D. in Biology or related field, with sufficient expertise in computational biology to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biostatistics, data science, and computer modeling. Outstanding applicants in all areas of biology will be considered.

The successful applicant will be expected to lead a rigorous research program, which will include securing extramural funding and publishing in peer-reviewed journals. Teaching will support the undergraduate program in Biological Sciences and the CADS graduate program. The applicant will also mentor undergraduate and graduate students on research projects.

Tenure track faculty are expected to develop and maintain an active research agenda for future tenure consideration and are evaluated on their research/scholarly activity, teaching, and service.
