Position Description:    

The Departments of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) and Biomedical Engineering (BME) at Boston University (BU) anticipate a tenured position at the level of Associate or Full Professor, working at the intersection of computation, data and information science, and biological systems with areas of impact that include computational biology, computational neuroscience, computational health, biological communications and information processing, brain-machine interfaces, and high-dimensional data analysis.

The BU footprint in these areas is growing significantly and candidates with research programs that transcend the traditional boundaries are welcome to explore affiliated appointments in appropriate departments, such as Computer Science, and Mathematics and Statistics. In addition, the University has openings for senior faculty as part of its Data Science Initiative and candidates can be considered in conjunction with this initiative.

BU BME is a top-ranked department (12th by US News and World Report and 6th among private institutions) and one of the largest in the nation. Research activity by BME faculty is on the order of $30M per year. BU ECE is ranked 36th by US News and World Report and 16th among private institutions. Research activity by ECE faculty is on the order of $30M per year. BU BME and ECE faculty lead and participate in several high-profile, multidisciplinary research centers, including the Rajen Kilachand Center for Integrated Life Science and Engineering, the Hariri Institute for Computing and Computational Science and Engineering, the Center for Information and Systems Engineering, the Center for Systems Neuroscience, and the Photonics Center.

We are looking for outstanding candidates with a Ph.D. in ECE or BME or related disciplines who demonstrate potential for leading an independent, interdisciplinary, and well-funded research program in their area of expertise, teach effectively at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and utilize their expertise to strengthen collaborative research within Engineering and beyond.
