Position Description:    

Postdoctoral Associate Department of Entomology  College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Cornell AgriTech Cornell University Geneva, New York

Position Function: The successful applicant will develop, implement and evaluate an effective IPM program for onion thrips that will ensure the sustainability and profitability of onion production. Additional responsibilities will be determined based on the candidate’s research and extension interests and expertise. Examples might include insect-plant-pathogen interactions, population ecology and biological control. This USDA SCRI grant-supported position requires collaboration with entomologists, plant pathologists, plant breeders, extension educators and onion growers.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in entomology or related discipline. Desire an individual with a background in applied insect ecology, IPM, statistics and familiarity with commercial agricultural production. Experience working in agricultural cropping systems is highly desirable, especially vegetable crops.

Anticipated Division of Time: (70%)   Research (25%)   Extension (5%)     Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements: •    Ph.D. in entomology or related discipline with a background in applied insect ecology, IPM, statistics and familiarity with commercial agricultural production.  •    Experience working in agricultural cropping systems is highly desirable, especially vegetable crops. •    Travel to nearby field sites will be required •    Must possess and maintain a valid U.S. driver’s license. •    Excellent organizational and communication skills, both writing and speaking.   •   Supervision Exercised •    Supervise temporary research assistants
