Arizona State University (Job# 12559)
Director, School of Social Transformation
Full Professor

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) seeks applications for School Director, with a concurrent appointment as tenured Professor, of the School of Social Transformation (SST), an innovative, interdisciplinary unit that places just solutions to societal challenges at the center of its scholarship and teaching. SST champions ASU’s vision of the New American University, measuring itself “not by whom it excludes, but by whom it includes and how well they succeed.” SST faculty represent humanities, social sciences, and interdisciplinary fields (including creative arts), and they are distinguished nationally and internationally for their scholarship. The faculty seek to think and to train students to think in more complex ways about race, ethnicity, gender, class, sexuality, social and economic justice, immigration status, and labor; to be accountable to the communities with which they engage; and to foreground social transformation on local, national, and global levels. The school’s location in Arizona, where demographic changes and social issues reflect the challenges taking place nationally, especially highlights the relevance of the school’s mission.

The successful candidate will build connections among African American Studies; Asian Pacific American Studies; Culture, Society, and Education; Justice and Social Inquiry; and Women and Gender Studies. As an intellectual leader, the director must be strongly committed to supporting and advocating for the interdisciplinary, scholarly and socially embedded work central to SST.
Essential Functions:
• Advance the vision of SST as stated above.
• Provide strong administrative leadership (manage the School’s budget; support research, scholarly collaboration, and teaching excellence across various platforms; recruit and retain diverse faculty, staff, and students; encourage growth of degree programs; and develop donor relations).

Minimum Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in a related field or discipline
• Administrative experience commensurate with the director position
• Compelling record of ongoing, high-quality scholarship appropriate to rank of full professor

 Desired Qualifications:
• Experience with donor relations and fundraising
• Potential to represent SST prominently in national and international conversations
• Demonstrated effectiveness serving a diverse student population, diverse faculty, and/or reaching out to diverse communities

This appointment reports to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences through the Dean of Social Sciences and is subject to all the rules and regulations of the University and the Arizona Board of Regents governing faculty members and academic administrators.
