Research-Track Professor

Advanced Characterization  - Structural Materials

Department of Materials Science and Engineering

The Ohio State University

Description: The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Ohio State University (https://mse.osu.edu) invites applications for a regular research faculty appointment in the area of aerospace metallic materials, with a focus on sophisticated defect analysis through the application of advanced analytical electron microscopy. This is a research-track position, and appointment is anticipated at the rank of Assistant or Associate. Appointment at the rank of Professor will also be considered when warranted. The Department of Materials Science and Engineering has a strong and long record of research and development in the area of metallic materials with an emphasis in electron microscopy and this appointment is intended to strengthen this particular material focus. Thus, interest is in candidates who have expertise in the application of high level defect analysis using aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy, diffraction contrast analysis, convergent beam electron diffraction techniques and x-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy.  The successful candidate will be expected to develop and sustain active sponsored research programs in the area of aerospace metallic materials, making significant use of defect analysis using analytical electron microscopy.

Qualifications: Candidates must have an earned doctoral degree in materials science and engineering. The candidate’s research should involve federal and industrial funding. The anticipated starting date is August 2019.

Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, complete curriculum vitae, separate 2-3 page statements of research and teaching goals, and the names, postal addresses, and e-mail addresses of four references.
