Assistant or Associate Professor in Biomedical or Bioelectrical Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the College of Engineering at the University of Kentucky ( invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level with a start date before August 15, 2019. Candidates should have a cross-disciplinary research emphases connecting electrical and computer engineering with biomedical engineering and the life-sciences. We particularly encourage applications from candidates with interest in biomedical assistive technologies, materials/devices/sensors, and informatics.

The candidate will complement existing departmental strengths in signal and image processing, controls, VLSI, micro- and nano- scale materials and devices, computational electromagnetics, power and energy systems, and computer engineering. The candidate will have the opportunity to join with departmental researchers focusing on topics such as epilepsy, sleep disorders, autism, speech disorders, glaucoma, and spinal cord injury as well as biomedical sensing and imaging. Furthermore, there are excellent opportunities for interaction with researchers throughout the colleges of engineering (including biomedical engineering and computer science), arts and sciences, agriculture, medicine, and pharmacy all of which are co-located on our Lexington, KY campus. A broad range of research infrastructure is available through college facilities for imaging, visualization, chemical analysis, nanofabrication, and rapid prototyping, as well as through computational and experimental open-access centers across campus.

Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or biomedical engineering and must have published in peer-reviewed academic journals. Evidence of an ability to obtain extramural grant support (including fellowships, workshop/conference grants, and experimental facility access) and a history of collaboration with medical and/or life-science researchers are preferred. Responsibilities for the successful candidate include establishment of an independent research program that is supported by awards from extramural agencies, contribution to the teaching mission of the undergraduate program, teaching and mentoring for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and service for the department, university, and profession.
