Chapman University’s Schmid College of Science and Technology seeks applications for a part-time general physics lab lecturer who has the ability to teach undergraduate students, beginning Spring 2019. The labs for General Physics for the Life Sciences are taken by life science majors in the fields of biology, kinesiology, health science, and pre-pharmacy, with occasional students from other science majors like mathematics, chemistry, biochemistry, and computer science.

The lab lecturer will teach one or more assigned 4 hour lab sections once per week throughout the semester.  Responsibilities each week include preparing a quiz, presenting a short pre-laboratory lecture about the lab material to orient the students, and guiding the students in correct laboratory technique and safety during the execution of an inquiry-based laboratory experiment. The lab lecturer will grade all assignments submitted by the students and send the final grades to the primary lecturer for the associated course as a sub-component of the total course grade. The lecturer must be available to attend a once per week general physics lab instructor meeting and a half day orientation at the beginning of the semester.

A Ph.D. or M.S. degree in physics or related area is required.
University or community college teaching experience, specifically with general physics courses.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing.
Strong commitment to student learning, quality teaching and academic excellence.
Ability to motivate and teach students of diverse learning styles and backgrounds.
