FTE: 40 hours

Salary: $32,458.00 - $ 44,000.00; DOE

Job Description: The Physics Instruction Resources Team (PIRT) is looking to hire a lab coordinator. The selected candidate will provide services to the Physics department by planning and preparing lecture demonstrations for General Studies and Majors courses.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three (3) years of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Working Environment: Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse. Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Clearly communicate to perform essential functions.

Essential Duties: Provide service to the physics department by planning preparing lecture demonstrations for Physics General Studies and Physics Majors courses. Provide the setup and assist with operation of undergraduate physics labs including technical lab support as needed during classes. Purchase, receive, and inventorying new laboratory equipment. Maintain laboratory equipment and maintain the demo-prep areas and laboratories in clean condition. Participate in PIRT outreach projects. Take part in professional development activities. Manage student workers who work with lecture/lab courses. Update hall displays with physics materials/interactive demos. Use effective verbal and written skills to provide technical training and create new lab manuals. Train/lead student workers during demo set-ups. Train/lead student workers during lab set-ups. Equipment inventory for the courses (propose budget for equipment/demo upgrades). Summer courses support. Work with a diverse population. DAYS and SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 8 hours shifts (8 a.m. - 5p.m.) and/or late evenings (12p.m. – 9p.m.).

Desired Qualifications: Evidence of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in physics or physics-related field. Experience with Microsoft Office Products (in a Windows or Mac environment) including Outlook, Excel, Word, and Power Point. Experience with internet and/or library searches of scientific concepts and technical applications. Experience with searches of purchasing new physics apparatus. Experience writing scientific papers and technical reports. Experience working with scientific laboratory equipment. Experience repairing laboratory equipment using basic tools, including soldering of electrical connections and wiring of simple circuits. Experience designing and building demonstrations and labs that exhibit scientific principles. Experience working collaboratively in a multicultural environment. Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills, including advanced grammar and spelling in American English.
