Working Title:  Transition Associate


 

The Extension Associate is responsible for extension programming and administration within one or more focus areas.  The Extension Associate is responsible for developing and delivering programs and services that are closely aligned with the strategic mission and core values of the ILR School, and for monitoring quality, impact, and outcomes of education, training, technical assistance, consulting and research activities of the program.  The Extension Associate will participate with other academic staff in setting YTI and project-specific goals, will annually set individual programmatic and budgetary goals with their supervisor, in line with specific project goals for assigned sponsored work.  In addition, the Extension Associate will actively engage and participate in both ILR and YTI general events and activities as available.  This position of Extension Associate reports to the Program Director.


The position’s primary focus will be as a Transition Associate for the NYS Education Department’s Transition Technical Assistance Partnership (T-TAP) professional development initiative. 


Extension Associate is a full-time, non-tenure track, academic term position with up to a three-year initial appointment.  The position may be re-appointed on the basis of recommendations by the appropriate Executive Director, Director and Associate Dean as well as available funding and work.  


Project-Related Emphasis:  This position’s role is to train and provide technical assistance to content specialists on the Office of Special Education Educational Partnership regional teams.


Specifically the Extension Associate will:


Strategic Focus and Alignment: YTI-Specific


  • Contribute to designing and implementing training and technical assistance to the regional partnership.
  • Serve as a member of regional partnership teams as assigned to regions across the state of New York.
  • Contribute to the development of all content and training programming through knowledge of quality transition practices including evidence based practices, predictors correlated with post-school success for students with disabilities, and federal state level regulations and legislation related to transition.
  • Contribute to building and sustaining training capacity through collaborative relationships with partners and networks to ensure that the regional partnership is equipped to deliver high quality training across the state of New York.   


Strategic Focus and Alignment: ILR School


  • Create and sustain high quality instructional design programs using both synchronous and asynchronous formats by ensuring that content is relevant and user-friendly.
  • Understand the needs of various target audiences and ensure that training programs are responsive to the evolving needs of all stakeholders.
  • Support alignment of the work efforts of YTI and individual sponsored programs with the strategic goals and values of the ILR School.
  • Stay informed and well versed about a broad range of best practice and/or advances in knowledge in the vocational rehabilitation, workforce development, and employment services and supports subject matter areas, including practice, policy and globalization impacts.

  • Identify key client/stakeholder groups to be served, and tie program/service content to the needs and interests and long-term goals of those groups.

  • Develop and maintain a network of state, regional and national relationships that are drawn upon to build understanding of the major forces shaping the needs, positions and actions of key client/stakeholder groups.

  • Maintain knowledge and skill in an academic field related to the workplace through teaching, training, consulting, program development and/or applied research activities. 

  • Write articles for scholarly peer-reviewed publications, trade and practitioner/advocacy journals. 


Financial Management

  • Contribute to and ensure the financial integrity and viability of YTI.

  • Proactively seek new clients and new external sources of funding for outreach and research activities.

  • Contribute to collaborative grant writing as appropriate.

  • Recommend to specific project directors and YTI leadership shifts in programming in response to changes in the economy, unanticipated financial challenges and/or opportunities to maintain a competitive edge of excellence.


Team Building


  • Contribute to team research and evaluation effort by participating in the design, data collection, data analysis and documentation of research.
  • Contribute to and role model teamwork in the ILR School and stimulate the members of YTI to work together effectively in pursuit of shared goals.
  • Identify approaches to keeping the ILR Outreach vision, mission, and values in the forefront of our practice and ensure that all YTI members feel valued, appreciated and effective.
  • Actively participate in annual goal setting and professional development discussions and performance reviews with supervisor. 
  • Actively participate in semi-annual meetings of YTI faculty and staff and team meetings, as scheduled.
  • Model academic excellence by staying personally informed about a broad range of best practice and/or advances in knowledge in a field related to the world of work.


Overall Effective Program Management:  ILR School

  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with Project Directors, YTI leadership, and Administrative support leaders to assess and improve administrative infrastructure.

  • Meet regularly with supervisor to provide an update on projects’ timeliness in relationship to planned execution, relevant new opportunities and/or possible collaborations, etc.

  • Contribute to annual reports and highlights on behalf of YTI by preparing a summary of activities.


Overall Effective Program Management:  YTI-Specific


  • Contribute to development of quarterly and annual reports for primary funding agencies; prepare information for project web-based reporting mechanisms.
  • Develop news releases, and project-related articles for YTI newsletter as requested.
  • Write articles for scholarly peer-reviewed publications, trade and practitioner/advocacy journals.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.


Required Qualifications:


  • Masters degree or higher in special education, general education, vocational rehabilitation, psychology, disability studies, adult education, or other related field.
  • Minimum of one year of experience providing professional development and/or technical assistance.  
  • Minimum of three years of experience working in K-12 education settings with educators
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and experience teaching adult learners. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in collaborative environments and to contribute to the innovation and outcome success of a team.
  • Relevant professional leadership and network development at the state and regional level.
  • Frequent travel required. 


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Terminal degree in special education or education-related field.
  • Two or more years of experience providing professional development and/or technical assistance to practitioners in special education or related field.
  • Two or more years of experience working in transition for students with disabilities and the ability to demonstrate content knowledge in the area of transition.
  • Demonstrated writing ability and scholarly record in the thematic content area (articles in peer-reviewed journals, articles in trade publications, research and project reports, informational brochures, policy briefs, etc.).
  • Professional credentials in disciplinary area, such as appropriate state and national licensure, certifications, etc.
  • Three or more years of experience working in special education or general education.
