The Department of Computer Science at Boston College invites applications for three visiting scholar positions in any of the following areas: parallel and distributed algorithms/optimization, proximal algorithms, convex and non-convex optimization, machine learning, statistics, graphical models, information theory, and related areas. Start date after January 1st 2020, but flexible. Duration up to 4 months. The candidate will have the freedom to shape his/her project. Current and past projects can be found at Candidates are encouraged, but not required, to work on two major projects underway: one pertaining the comparison of large networks, and the other one dealing with machine learning problems that arise from biology research on the emergence of antibiotics resistance.

Required qualifications:

– Being a student enrolled in a Ph.D. program in computer science, statistics, operations research, or applied mathematics. Applicants already with a Ph.D., or Ph.D. students in Physics, Mathematics, Economics, and Biology are encouraged to apply, if proficient in some of the areas aforementioned.

– Advanced coursework in mathematics, statistics, optimization, machine learning, and signal processing

– Previous publications in top conferences in ML, AI, optimization, statistics, information theory, and related fields.
