Postdoctoral Associate
Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology Section

A postdoctoral associate position is available immediately at the Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology Section, Cornell University. A highly self-motivated candidate with excellent molecular biology skills is sought to investigate the molecular mechanisms of plant-nematode interactions. The candidate is expected to conduct research with a specific emphasis on nematode secreted effector proteins and their interacting host targets. The research will employ interdisciplinary approaches including plant biochemistry, molecular biology, genomics, and proteomics. The initial appointment is for 1 year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year and beyond based on satisfactory performance and continued funding resources.

Anticipated Division of Time

85% Conducting research projects using diverse approaches. 5% Data analyses, analyzing RNAseq and other sequencing data. 10% Manuscript writing and meeting presentations.


PhD in molecular plant pathology, plant molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or related fields. The successful candidate should have a good publication record, strong skills in molecular biology, biochemistry and proteomics, and a keen interest in plant-microbe interactions. Prior experience in nematology is desirable, but not required. The candidate should be independent and highly self-motivated. The ability to organize and work effectively is required.

Supervision Exercised

The postdoc may on occasion supervise undergraduate research assistants working on this project.
