A Research Associate (Post-Doctoral Fellow) position is currently available in the Grosso Lab at the Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC) at the Graduate Center, CUNY. The lab focuses on Quantum Optics and Nanoscale Spectroscopy to develop new single photon sources and other quantum platforms based on 2D materials. The research work will include fabrication and characterization of photonic structures, nanofabrication with 2D materials, optical characterization including single photon spectroscopy and Fourier spectroscopy.

The lab is part of a dynamic and multidisciplinary research environment at the Photonics Initiative of ASRC, in which multiple groups share mixed labs, structures and facilities. Along this line, we truly value and promote the genuine exchange of ideas and expertise. The CUNY Advanced Science Research Center provides sophisticated equipment and staff support to researchers and includes a state-of-the-art Clean Room/NanoFabrication Facility, Imaging facilities, Visualization Room, and a Rooftop Observatory. Duties include but are not limited to: - Develop ideas and experimental concepts in the field of nanophotonics and quantum optics. - Develop and fabricate sample devices for integrated optics and 2D materials. - Run experiments and simulations, data analysis, write scientific reports for publications and grant proposals. - Assist and mentor students in conducting research. - Conduct independent research within the guidelines of the group and in collaboration with other members of the lab, the Photonics Initiative and the Advanced Science Research Center. - Adhere to standards for safety and hygiene and ethical conduct as defined by the University and relevant outside parties. - Perform other duties as assigned.

General Duties:

- Conducts academic research in connection with CUNY programs; may assist faculty, staff, and students in conducting research and lead research efforts involving others.

- Develops research plans and proposals and participates in acquiring funding

- Collects, analyzes, and assures validity of data

- Writes progress reports; writes and publishes findings

- Collaborates with internal and external colleagues

- Adheres to standards for safety and hygiene and ethical conduct as defined by the University and relevant outside parties

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctoral Degree in a related field and demonstrated research ability.

Other Qualifications:

A preferred candidate should have: - Ph.D. degree in physics, photonics, engineering, chemistry or a related field. - Two (2) years of research experience in the field of experimental optics and/or integrated photonics and/or 2D materials and/or quantum optics. - Strong background in experimental optics and nanofabrication. - Experience with 2D materials and/or spectroscopy. - Ability to pursue research ideas. - Passion for publishing papers in peer-reviewed journals and making conference presentations.
