GEORGIA STATE UNIVERSITY: Robinson College of Business, Department of Risk Management & Insurance NON-TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION IN LEGAL STUDIES AND RISK MANAGEMENT AND INSURANCE

GEORGIA STATE UNIVERSITY invites applications for a non-tenure-track appointment to teach both Legal Studies and Risk Management and Insurance courses. The appointment will begin Fall 2019 in the Department of Risk Management and Insurance in the J. Mack Robinson College of Business.

Rank is open and dependent on background. Candidates for Lecturer, Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor are all encouraged to apply. Lecturers are expected to teach four classes each semester and are expected to engage in service activities, but have no research obligations. Non-tenure track clinical faculty teach 3 courses per semester, are expected to participate in departmental and college service, and must be capable of publishing in premier refereed pedagogical journals in the disciplines of risk management, insurance and legal studies. Salary is competitive.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: To be qualified, a lecturer candidate must have an excellent academic record, with a J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school and must demonstrate the potential to be an outstanding teacher in both the legal studies and risk management fields. To be qualified for a clinical faculty position, a candidate must meet all of the requirements for a lecturer candidate and must have professional experience in both law and risk management and/or insurance, with evidence of a substantial level of responsibility and leadership.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Prior teaching experience, either full time or as an adjunct in a law or business school, or as an instructor in risk management or insurance courses is preferred, as is prior publication in the fields of law or risk management or insurance, either in refereed pedagogy or disciplinary journals. Candidates with a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation are also preferred.

ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT: The Department of Risk Management and Insurance at Georgia State University is one of the oldest and most influential risk management programs in the U.S. and has a distinguished history of serving students, alumni, and the risk management profession for more than 60 years. We are currently rated #3 in the U.S. News and World Report ranking of RMI programs; we hold a Center of Actuarial Excellence designation from the Society of Actuaries; a Global Center of Insurance Excellence from the International Insurance Society, and we are an Accredited Risk Program according to the Professional Risk Management International Association (PRMIA).

The mission of the department is to better understand how risks faced by individuals, institutions, and societies can be more accurately measured and more efficiently managed. Faculty members have risk-related research interests including behavioral economics, experimental methods, actuarial science, mathematical finance, econometrics, household finance, corporate decision making, legal risk, and insurance economics, among others. The department has graduate programs in quantitative risk management, actuarial science, and is actively involved in the interdisciplinary graduate program in analytics. We also have an active PhD program.
