Position Description:

Postdoctoral position is immediately available with Dr. Priya Kishnani in the department of Pediatrics, division of Medical Genetics at Duke University to study the effect of rare variants on the disease processes. We are seekinga motivated candidate with creative and critical thinking skills who can work independently and collaboratively with others. Familiarity with the latest state-of-the-art techniques and experimental strategies to measure the effects of rare variants of unknown significance (VOUS) in clinical disease process is required. Other important skills would include experience with molecular biology- like copy number variation analysis using various databases of genomic variants and use of bioinformatics techniques to assess the clinical significance of deleterious genetic variants. These techniques will be applied to the clinical population seen at Duke and contribute to interpretation of genetic testing in clinical practice. Knowledge of other applications of bioinformatics including using predictiontools, molecular modeling, and functional analyses of variants (variants of unknown significance) identified in patients affected with rare disease like glycogen storage diseases (I, II, III, IX) would be helpful. Working knowledge of metabolomics data analysis and interpretation, and proteomics prediction tools would be a benefit. Through this research, the successful candidate will gain extensive hands-on experience with cutting-edge techniques as part of a strong multidisciplinary team of clinicians and researchers at Duke University working in the field of genetics and rare disease. Qualifications: Candidates must have a PhD degree in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or a related field.
