We are searching for a motivated postdoctoral researcher interested in leading a recently USDA-funded project on “Landscape-Mediated Changes In Functional Traits Of Insect Populations And Their Consequences For Ecosystem Services”. In this project we want to investigate the filtering effect of landscape simplification on functional traits of insect communities associated to crops. We want to disentangle the effects of species turnover and intraspecific variation on functional traits in pollinator, herbivore and natural enemy communities. We also want to test in the field and experimentally what the consequences of landscape-mediated changes in functional traits are on ecosystem services such as crop productivity.

The likely model system will be strawberry and their associated insect community. The research will be conducted in collaboration with external research partners and stakeholders. The postdoc will actively design experiments, perform and coordinate field and greenhouse experiments, analyze data, and write and publish scientific papers in collaboration with the research team. The postdoc will also assist in the supervision of students, engage in and lead lab activities, and communicate with stakeholders.

This is a 12-month appointment, renewable contingent on available work, performance and funding
