Horticulture Section College of Agriculture and Life Sciences School of Integrative Plant Science â Cornell AgriTech Title: Postdoctoral Associate Position Function This position requires a person with strong background and interest in plant breeding/genetics, and a desire to work on both applied and molecular approaches. This individual will join a national team working to apply the latest in molecular mapping technology to locate genes of greatest interest in public grapevine breeding programs. Responsibilities will include aspects of phenotyping important traits in Cornell University grape breeding populations. Individual will also have responsibility for coordinating and managing a complex, national project. Anticipated Division of Time (40%) Phenotyping
traits of viticultural importance, according to applicantâs skills and
interests, and in accordance with goals of interest to project leader. Interact
with mapping technology team to assure processing of data for the discovery of
markers for genes controlling phenotyped traits, and to develop information on
candidate loci. (30%) Organization and
communication with project participants; Arrange meetings, facilitate
inter-group communications. Organize
annual project meeting. (20%) Gathering information
and assembling reports (5%) Interaction
with project leaders and other project participants (Cornell U. and USDA-ARS,
as well as research project members across the United States.) (5%) Other duties
and special projects as assigned. Requirements
Supervision Exercised
At present, there are no plans for supervision of technical
staff and/or students. However, it will
be important to work together with other technical staff and students involved
in the project. There are possibilities
to supervise temporary support personnel and/or summer student interns.
