Postdoctoral Associate in Environmental Epidemiology

Description

We have an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Associate. The Postdoc will contribute to research on environmental exposures and children's health as part of ongoing projects with Drs Kate Hoffman and Heather Stapleton at Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment. The Postdoc will lead analyses and manuscripts on a variety of children’s environmental health topics, focusing on assessing chemical exposures in indoor environments and their potential health effects. Preferred candidates will have strong methodological skills and an interest in environmental, perinatal, or pediatric epidemiology.

Training

The Postdoc will work with dedicated mentors in a supportive research environment. Training in exposure science, epidemiologic methods, environmental and pediatric epidemiology, and manuscript and grant writing will be provided. The Postdoc will be encouraged to pursue career development activities, present at professional conferences, develop independent research projects, and apply for a career development award (e.g., K99/R00) or other research grants.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a doctoral degree in epidemiology, environmental health, biostatistics, or a related field. Excellent writing skills, as well as programming and data management skills in SAS, R, or Stata, are required. Additional desirable qualifications include experience in exposure-based research, children’s health research (e.g., experience with birth outcomes, growth, neurodevelopment, or respiratory health), and statistical approaches to assess exposure to mixtures.

Additional details

The Postdoc will be appointed for one year with the possibility of extension. The start date is flexible, but summer 2019 is preferred.
