Position Description

The group of Nanomagnetism and Spintronics of the Physics Department at the University of Central Florida (UCF) offers a postdoctoral position in High Frequency Antiferromagnetic Spintronics. The position is funded for one year and renewable yearly after (subject to performance evaluation). The postdoctoral scholar will collaborate within a multi-investigator and multi-institutional 5-year MURI project funded by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR). This project aims at studying the fundamental characteristics of antiferromagnetic (AFM) insulators through the development of new thin film AFM/NM heterostructures and the application of advanced measurement techniques, which have the potential to transform methods for generating and processing THz signals. The postdoctoral associate will co-supervise graduate and undergraduate students and interact with a team of researchers in the US and abroad who are leaders in the field of AFM spintronics, with demonstrated expertise in theory, epitaxial thin-film growth, nanofabrication, material and magnetoelectric device characterization in a broad range of frequencies and energies, ultra-fast circuit design and device modeling.

As soon as August 1st, 2019.

Position Requirements* 

Only applications fulfilling some of the following requirements will be considered: i) A strong experimental background in device physics in nanoscale spintronics, preferably with expertise in high frequency spin pumping and/or spin-transfer torque studies; ii) expertise in Terahertz physics, including detection of Terahertz signals originated from nanoscale devices will be beneficial; and/or iii) hands-on experience in cryogenic, magnetometry, ferromagnetic resonance spectroscopy or similar techniques is required. Candidates with additional expertise in numerical simulation, programming, data analysis, nanofabrication, and instrumentation will be given priority.
