The Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina invites applications for two full-time Instructors in Mandarin Chinese language beginning August 1, 2019. The contract for the position is renewable on a yearly basis based on a demonstration of academic rigor in teaching, curriculum innovation, professional development and service to the department. After four consecutive years, the contract can be converted to a multi-year contract contingent upon satisfactory performance. Candidates should have an M.A. in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, Applied Linguistics, Chinese Studies, or a related field with native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and English. PhDs and ABDs are encouraged to apply. Experience in teaching undergraduates in North America and the ability to teach all levels of Chinese language courses are required. Adaptability with instructional technologies, experience with team-teaching, and demonstration of active participation in the professional field are highly desirable.
