Work Performed

The Associate in Research position for the Samuel DuBois Cook Center on Social Equity at Duke University will be responsible for assisting the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigators on a National Institutes of Health grant entitled, Religion, Spirituality and CVD Risks: A Focus on African Americans. This project examines social determinants, specifically religion and spirituality, for their relationship with cardiovascular disease in African Americans. Strong candidates will have proficiency in racial and ethnic health disparities research and experience working in African American community and/or religious settings. The person in this position will manage and contribute to all matters relating to this project, including the interpretation and dissemination of findings in peer-reviewed journals and national conferences, as well as managing recruitment efforts and data collection, and relevant grant reports and submissions. The candidate will join an interdisciplinary team of faculty, clinicians, postdoctoral associates, community partners and undergraduate research assistants. Strong organizational, writing and interpersonal skills are necessary to be successful in this position.  Experience with qualitative or mixed methods research analysis is preferred. The appointment is for one year, with the possibility of appointment renewal based upon funding and performance.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Ph.D in health sciences or related field and experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis related to racial and ethnic health disparities. Proficiency with common software (e.g., STATA, NVivo, SPSS, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working on NIH funded projects and experience working at Duke University in a research center environment.
